Learn About The Disney Magic Cruise Ship… The Ship That Started It All

I’m sure you’ve heard about the Disney Magic cruise ship. It is the sister ship to the Disney Wonder and it was built in 1998.

It was the first cruise ship built for the Disney Cruise Line.

This Disney cruise ship was constructed in the famous Fincantieri shipyards located in Italy.

This company is highly thought of for their quality workforce and engineers and it shows in the quality of this beautiful cruise ship.

Disney Magic Cruise Ship

The size of this Disney cruise ship is impressive to say the least. It is 964 feet in length and is 106 feet at its widest point. For all of you cruise history buffs out there that is 82 feet longer than the Titanic.

It has 11 decks and a whopping 83,000 gross tonnage. It can accommodate as many as 2,400 people for passengers and has a crew and cast of 950 to take care or entertain them.

Old School Ocean Liner Style

The Disney Magic takes you back to the glory days of ocean liners. In the good ol’ days an ocean liner was the only way to get across the oceans.

The old school ocean liners were opulent and grand in style and comfort. This is the style and look that the Disney Cruise Line was going for.

From an artistic chandelier to the roomy staterooms, the Disney Magic delivers elegance to their passengers. You can even view animation cels from Disney's rare collection of them throughout the ship.

The Disney Magic is decorated in art deco with sculptures, woodwork, and paintings that were specially created for it. It also proudly displays a Helmsman Mickey statue in the atrium for all to see and admire.

Dale Chihuly, a world famous glass artist from Seattle, designed the chandelier that I mentioned earlier. It is a fabulously crafted chandelier that gets lots of attention from the guests.

This piece of art helps to decorate the atrium lobby along with Helmsman Mickey. The same grand theme is carried throughout the ship, even into the staterooms.

Designed With Plenty To Do For The Kids

There are several youth clubs for the kids to enjoy on this Disney cruise ship.

The Disney's Oceaneer Club is great for the younger kids. They can play on computers or make believe they are their favorite hero or princess. The sky is the limit in the Oceaneer Club.

The kids can also educate themselves in an enjoyable way in the Oceaneer Lab; they do need the parents' permission though.

In Ocean Quest the children who are 11 - 13 can even steer the ship, virtually that is.

3 Different Ways To Take A Dip

The Disney Magic has 3 swimming pools. One is for the kids, one for the family, and then one for adults only!

The family and adult swimming pools have 2 whirlpool spas each.

The one for the kids is shaped like Mickey Mouse and has his face on the bottom of the pool.

Food, Drinks, and Fun

You will find several clubs and restaurants on deck 3 of the Disney Magic.

There is “Sessions” which is a deco jazz piano bar in the Beat Street area where adults can drink cocktails and listen to music.

There is the “Rockin’ D Bar” which offers top 40 and oldies hits as well as karaoke.

There is the Cove Cafe’ for adults only located by the adults-only pool.

Also on deck 3 there are restaurants; one of which is Lumiere's. This restaurant does French and American cuisine and is themed on Beauty and the Beast.

There is also Parrot Cay. It is an island-styled buffet restaurant that serves lunch and breakfast. I will say that the omelets was amazing and were, by far, my food of choice for breakfast throughout the entire cruise.

Disney Magic Animators Palate

On deck 4 is Animator’s Palate. This $4.3 million dollar phenomenon is a restaurant where the entire room changes color while you eat.

They also offer you a little show during your dining stay. Animator’s Palate is a must-see for anyone on the Disney Magic.

Entertainment Aboard The Disney Magic

There is plenty to do aboard this beautiful cruise ship. A favorite among many is the live Broadway style shows that Disney delivers for you as part of your cruise package.

You get a chance to see three shows during your cruise: The Golden Mickey’s, Twice Charmed, and Disney Dreams - An Enchanted Classic. These are fantastic performances and I recommend that you catch them all.

It has also been announced, as of this writing, that Villains Tonight!, a musical spectacular, will be premiering in March 2010 aboard the Disney Magic.

They also have the very first Disney Digital-3D movie theatre at sea in the Buena Vista theatre as well as outdoor big screens on deck.

As you can see, the Disney Cruise Line has designed a cruise ship that is just about guaranteed to produce a magical family vacation moment that you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life.
