The Disney Wonder Cruise Ship Is One Of The Best Cruise Ships In The World

The Disney Wonder cruise ship was the vessel that we took on our first ever Disney cruise.

Actually, it was our first ever cruise period and I have a feeling we were spoiled by this beautiful ship.

It will be a little tough finding one that is better.

The Disney Wonder cruise ship was the second ship built by Disney Cruise Line and set sail in 1999.

We went on our cruise in 2009 and it was as beautiful as ever.

I couldn’t imagine how fantastic it looked 10 years prior to that magical day.

It is 964 feet in length and is 106 feet at its widest point. In case you are fond of cruising knowledge that means the Disney Wonder is 82 feet longer than the Titanic.

The Disney Wonder has 11 decks and 83,000 gross tonnage. It can accommodate as many as 2,400 passengers and has a crew and cast of 950.

The Disney Wonder is decorated using an art nouveau design. Dale Chihuly, a world famous glass artist from Seattle, designed the chandelier for the Disney Wonder that the Disney Cruise Line is so proud of.

Lots To Do Aboard The Disney Wonder

There was plenty of stuff to do while on our trip and we could not even come close to fitting it all in. I think we may have gotten to do half the stuff on board… MAYBE.

There are several clubs strung out all over the Disney Wonder cruise ship. The main club areas are:

  • Cadillac Lounge
  • Promenade Lounge
  • WaveBands
  • Diversions

These are all fantastic places to stop in and have a good time.

The Mickey Mouse pool is a toddler pool that was recently added and features interactive fountains and splash zones.

It is even shaped in the form of Mickey Mouse.

A 24 x 14 ft LED screen attached to the forward funnel and overlooking the Goofy Pool offers Disney movies and television programs.

Sitting back in a lounge chair and watching a show on this huge outdoor screen was on the top of my “to-do” list for our cruise and with everything going on, I never got to do it.

I guarantee it will be done on our next Disney cruise.

The Vista Spa was a very nice place, according to my wife, and the Quiet Cove adults-only pool seemed very relaxing too.

The Food On The Disney Wonder Is Fantastic

The food on the ship, and Castaway Cay, was awesome. My favorite was easily the Mickey Bars.

My wife loved Cookies BBQ on Castaway Cay and the room service pizzas.

The kids loved pretty much anything and everything that they could get their hands on.

The three main restaurants are:

  • Parrot Cay
  • Tritons
  • Animators Palate

There is also room service, of course, and other food stand type of stops with pizza, burgers, tacos, ice cream, etc.

Entertainment Aboard The Disney Wonder

There is plenty to do aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship.

The live Broadway style shows that Disney delivers to you as part of your cruise package are a must see.

The three shows during your cruise are:

  • The Golden Mickey’s
  • Toy Story: The Musical
  • Disney Dreams - An Enchanted Classic

These are fantastic performances and I recommend that you catch them all.

You simply won’t have enough time to fit in all that the Disney Wonder cruise ship has to offer.

We were going non-stop from the time we woke up until late into the evening and we still were not able to do everything that we wanted to do.

When You Wish Upon A Star

The Disney Wonder cruise ship has a horn that sounds the first seven notes of "When You Wish Upon A Star" as you are pulling out of Port Canaveral.

This was a personal favorite of mine and I also have it as a ring tone on my cell phone. The guys at work get a chuckle every time it goes off and I will just look at them with a grin and a nod.

Alaska Cruises In The Disney Wonders Future

When the new Disney Dream begins its sailings out of Port Canaveral in 2011, the Disney Wonder will be relocated to Los Angeles, California.

On September 11, 2009 Disney Cruise Line announced that the Disney Wonder cruise ship will have 18, 7 night sailings to Alaska during the 2011 summer.
